Bellafill

What is Bellafill®?

Bellafill® is a non-surgical, semi-permanent injectable procedure that is used for facial volume restoration and acne scar reduction.

Bellafill® is a very unique procedure and is often combined with other treatment modalities to achieve optimal results. In cases that require significant volume restoration or correction of severe acne scarring, Bellafill® is administered in multiple stages over time to help restore and rebuild the skin’s matrix for a natural looking result.

Bellafill® is a Health Canada Approved product that should be performed by highly trained providers. Our team at Distinct Medical Aesthetics has performed hundreds of Bellafill® procedures.

5 years bellafil

How does it work?

Bellafill® is composed of microscopic, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres that are suspended within a base of smooth collagen gel. Over time, your body uses the microspheres in Bellafill® to create a “scaffold” onto which your own natural collagen can develop. This collagen forms a foundation that adds volume to deep folds, wrinkles and acne scar depressions, reducing their appearance. This is a long-lasting, semi-permanent procedure with clinical evidence supporting it’s long-lasting effects beyond 5 years.

What are the risks?

Potential Side Effects and Complications:

  • Temporary mild swelling, redness and tenderness near the treated areas should be expected.
  • Bruising may occur and is generally limited, but as with any bruise, the discoloration andswelling may last for several weeks.
  • Allergic reactions to the bovine collagen component of Bellafill® are rare (1% or less).

Dermal filler treatments are purely elective. Generally, patients are very satisfied with the results. While not life threatening, a disappointing outcome is a possibility. Careful reflection anddiscussion of risks, benefits, and options should always be considered.

What to expect after your Bellafill® Treatment

Immediately after the treatment, the most commonly reported side effects are temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. If subcision was performed as well, you may experience increased swelling. These effects typically resolve within 2 – 3 days. Cold compresses may be used immediately after the treatment to reduce swelling.

Avoid applying make up to the treated area for 4 hours following treatment.

Avoid exercise for 24 hours.

Avoid facial massages or Light therapy treatments for 2 weeks.

Until the redness and swelling have resolved, avoid exposure of the area to intense heat (sunlamp or sunbathing).

If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that any stimulation of the area could contribute to another occurrence. If you are predisposed to cold sores, you will be provided with a prescription for Valtrex to prevent to risk of a breakout. Take the medication as directed.

Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for two days after the treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
