WHAT IS LUMECCA IPL?
LUMECCA™ is a non-invasive IPL (Intense Pulse Light) technology that is used for skin rejuvenation, and reduction of brown and red spot on the skin. LUMECCA™ is an innovative technology that uses light energy to treat aging skin, sun damaged skin, freckles, small facial veins, acne and overall skin complexion. IPL is also used for skin tightening and can improve the texture of your skin. The most common areas treated, are the areas most exposed by the sun such as the face, neck, chest and back of hands.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
LUMECCA™ IPL is a gentle, noninvasive and safe procedure that does not require any topical anesthetic. An applicator that emits controlled energy to the upper layers of your skin, stimulating skin cells to regenerate new collagen. This energy is what reduces fine vessels that cause redness and corrects the unwanted melanin that causes freckles and age spots to appear.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
- Pigmented lesions (brown spots) will become darker for a period of 1-2 weeks before starting to lighten. Local inflammation around the lesions, appearing as some redness and swelling in the treated area as part of the healing process.
- Blood capillaries (red spots) will clot and appear darker for 1-2 weeks before disappearing. Some redness and swelling is expected response during the healing process, typically a few days.
- Some skin tightening may occur immediately, which may decline for 1-2 months, but will improve then, as new collagen fibers are produced.
- Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light for a short period following your treatment until you have completely healed, so it’s best to avoid direct sun exposure and use a good sunscreen to fully protect your skin while outdoors or sitting beside windows.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS?
Possible side effects of the LUMECCA™ IPL treatment include: local tenderness, skin redness (erythema), swelling (edema), damage to the natural skin texture (crust, blister, burn), change of pigmentation (darkening or lightening of the skin), and scarring. Although these side effects are rare and expected to be temporary, the Distinct Medical Aesthetics team are trained to provide safe and effective treatments.
